The aging of Hollywood Boulevard

When you think about Hollywood Boulevard and you actually have never been there, it comes to your mind an image of Marilyn Monroe, celebrities at the red carpet wearing jewelry that easily costs way more than everything that you own, glamorous parties and the ultimate American Dream.

Once you step one foot on the Boulevard and are pushed through a sea of tourists, Elmos and Batmans, the glam goes away. In fact the glam the Walk of fame Hollywood stars where meant to bring to the area in the beginning, never really happened until the 80´s when celebrities where asked to appear at the revealing of their stars, but still until now, it is an area that represents de decay of Hollywood, broken dreams of frustrated actors wearing home made costumes, numerous “Made in China” souvenir shops, and a huge elderly community that wants nothing to do with the sex shops, bars, political protests and annoying tourists surrounding the area.

The old buildings that used to be newspaper distributers, hotels and classic houses have been replaced with malls, coffee shops and hipster boutique hotels.
